The SMMC Care Complex, is located just behind the St. Maarten Medical Center, this facility will be offering dermatology services to the public.
To accommodate to the increase of medical specialists, two rooms of the nurses’ apartment were renovated to create the Care Complex as a temporary extension of the hospital whilst waiting for the necessary expansion of the St. Maarten Medical Center to be realized. The Care Complex allows us the growth needed for the increase of specialists at the St. Maarten Medical Center as well as to better serve the public of St. Maarten and our neighboring islands.
The SMMC uses this opportunity to introduce its newest Dermatologist Dr. Florangel Valverde. Dr. Valverde is originally from the Dominican Republic, where she operated a private and public practice from 2006 until 2011. After completing her dermatology residency in 2006 she further studied and earned qualifications as a dermatologist surgeon in 2008.
Her specialty includes the diagnosis and management of non-melanoma skin cancers and benign skin tumors. Besides speaking Spanish and English, Dr. Valverde is also fluent in French; making her another essential asset to the St. Maarten Medical Center.
With the services of Dr. Valverde, the SMMC will increase the dermatology care being offered on the island; Dr. Valverde will be working together with dermatologist Dr. Jan van Duren.
Persons can make appointments to see the dermatologist at the care complex at extension 1334. When visiting the dermatologist, it will not be necessary to go to the main building, persons can go directly to the Care Complex, on the Jackal Road, up the hill before the fire department; parking is provided at the front of the Care Complex for the convenience of visitors.
In the near future, SMMC hopes to offer more services via the Care Complex. “The St. Maarten Medical Center is progressing and growing” said Manager of Facilities,Erika van der Horst, she continues, “We are improving our facility to benefit our growing patient population.”
