Our General Surgery Department specializes in a wide range of surgeries and procedures and provides a wide range of services for patients with conditions that require surgical intervention. Our patients receive consultations and diagnoses for conditions such as hernias, gallstones, appendix problems, and various types of tumors, among others. We perform procedures and surgeries such as trauma and acute thoracic surgery, pediatric surgery, breast surgery, laparoscopy, head and neck surgery, burn wound care, vascular (access) surgery, acute arterial bypass, gastrointestinal surgery, and traumatology providing cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedures, and traditional surgical techniques by trained surgeons.
Our surgeons work closely with each patient to determine the best approach for their individual needs. In addition to surgeries, patients may receive pre-operative and post-operative care, including education on lifestyle changes and recovery expectations. The surgeons are supported by a network of medical professionals, such as nurses, anesthesiologists, and specialists, to provide comprehensive and individualized care for each patient. The goal of the clinic is to ensure the safe and successful outcome of each surgical procedure and to improve the overall health and well-being of each patient.

Dr. Felix Holiday was born on St. Maarten and moved to the Netherlands to pursue tertiary education in medicine. He received a Master’s Degree in Medical Science and a Medical Doctor (M.D) degree at the Catholic University of Nijmegen before specializing in General Surgery at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. After completing his education, he worked as a General Surgeon in Belgium and the Netherlands before moving back to St. Maarten.
Upon his return, Dr. Holiday joined SMMC as a General Surgeon, Emergency Room Medical Supervisor, and Medical Care Coordinator. His certifications include Acute Trauma and Life Support (ATLS), Medical Disaster Management, and Laparoscopic Surgery. In 2017, he became SMMC’s Medical Director and since 2020, he has been serving as the Acting General Director while still performing his General Surgeon and Medical Director duties.
In addition to his functions at SMMC, he is an advocate for education and serves as an Introduction to Clinical Medicine Tutor at the American University of the Caribbean.
In 2024, Dr. Holiday has been appointed as CEO of St. Maarten Medical Center as he continues to play a key role in the hospital's strategic development and has steadily led them through crises like Hurricane Irma and the COVID-19 pandemic.
