On Wednesday, July 2, 2014, the Windward Islands Health Care Union Association and the St. Maarten Medical Center signed the new Collective Labour Agreement, which is effective as of July 1, 2014 until June 30, 2017.
One of the main purposes of the CLA is to keep the earnings at the same level with the island’s inflation. Changes were made with the objective to gain a more social and satisfactory gain that is fair for all employees. Both parties, WIHCHUA and SMMC, are proud of the positive outcomes of our negotiations and the way in which we came to the agreement.

Some of the changes to the new CLA include:
- Salary increases based on COLA
- Christmas Bonus increase
- Irregular Hours allowance
- New bonus system
- Longer special leave for some instances
