The St. Maarten Medical Center Accelerated Courses, is offered following the curriculum provided by the Instituto pa Formashon den Enfermeria (IFE) in Curacao.
There courses are for persons who have a nursing diploma/background and want to further their studies. The following programs are available for:
Levels in nursing:
Upon completion of level 4 in nursing, a registered nurse can further their studies to become a sub-specialized nurse in the following areas:
Nurses with a level 5 in nursing are further qualified as a nurse practitioner (NP). Such a nurse has additional responsibilities for administering patient care than registered nurses including the ability to prescribe medication, examine patients, diagnose illnesses, and provide treatment, much like physicians do.

The RN must have a quick insight into the need for care of the patient and must be able to execute the
efficiently and with flexibility. The emphasis is on planning and executing care in
accordance with the standard procedures and combinations of (standard) procedures. Besides, he/she
must be able to combine or think or procedures in the individual
execution of care.
3. Transfer in care:
The nurse has gained more knowledge and skills that are specific for the nursing trade and in addition
he/she has also gained more knowledge and skills that are non-specific for this.
