The mission of the St. Maarten Medical Center is:
SMMC provides high quality, accessible, affordable and friendly hospital care in the best interest of the patient, close to home.
St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) is an ambitious and growing hospital organization on St. Maarten. With approximately 425 FTEs, 28 specialists, and a capacity of 80 beds, we continuously strive to ensure safe, quality health care, close to home. Our primary service area of St. Maarten, St. Eustatius, and Saba, represents a total population of approximately 60.000 people, constituting a multi-cultural mix with more than 100 nationalities. In addition, we also offer healthcare services to two million visitors annually. SMMC has started the construction of the new St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH) to expand its services to accommodate the increased care demand of the people of St. Maarten, its visitors, and the neighboring islands. The new hospital is planned to be operational in 2026.
The vision of the St. Maarten Medical Center is:
To be the regional leader in providing high quality hospital care, with compassion and friendly service.
“Working at SMMC is more than working in the hospital to me, but working in and for St. Maarten. My job brings me great satisfaction; to work on the island that I call home, caring for my community whom I call my people. The appreciation we get from our patients can never be expressed in money or words. Our patients will occasionally remember their surgical procedure but they will always remember the personal and highest quality care and service that we give. We cannot give anything less than our best.”
Dr. Felix Holiday
Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Through tracking key quality and safety indicators, we are dedicated to improved patient outcomes. As we shift our organization towards a new General Hospital, we are aiming to become a Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited organization which is considered the gold standard in global health care.
JCI-accredited organizations are rigorously evaluated and must demonstrate committed compliance to quality care delivery based on the most current evidence-based practice standards. This means SMMC is working to improve and implement high-quality care initiatives, patientsafe policies, practices, and procedures required to meet those standards.
Our aim is to develop SMMC to a prominent medical institution in the Caribbean in order to deliver quality care close to home.
