Outpatient Department

We offer specialties to meet the needs of our community. In the side panel are the specialists who work at our hospital. You may contact the Outpatient department at (721) 543-1111 ext 1300 to make an appointment with a specialist, unless stated otherwise below.

Ask Me 3 is a patient education program from the National Patient Safety Foundation designed to improve communication between patients and health care providers, encourage patients to become active members of their health care team, and promote improved health outcomes.

When you visit our medical professionals, remember to ask three questions:

The Outpatient department at the SMMC manages the majority of outpatient appointments.

Most patients are referred to the medical specialists or midwives by their general practitioner. When you bring your referral letter, we will arrange an appointment for you.Referral letters are valid for up to three months from the date of issue.

You may choose to make your appointment by phone. If you do, remember to bring the referral letter on the date of your appointment.

The SMMC has a social worker who is there to provide services to all inpatients of the hospital and their families, to current outpatients and their families making use of the hospital in all medical specialty areas as well as to all staff working at the hospital.

Social Workers within the hospital assess the psychosocial functioning of patients and families and provide help as necessary. This may include:

• Connecting patients and families to necessary resources and supports in the community.
• Providing psychosocial support, supportive counseling, grief counseling, adjustment counseling.
• Helping a patient to expand and strengthen their network of social supports.
• Help with discharge.

The social work office is open Monday thru Friday from 9am-4pm excluding Wednesdays and public holidays. If you would like to make use of the services of the social workers, please inform one of our nurses.
