In the Outpatient department the doctor sees and treats patients in his/hers policlinic without the need for a stay in the hospital, this is also called ambulatory care.
In the department, there are also offices that provide diagnostic services for the general practitioner and specialists.
Chemotherapy and Blood Bank services are also part of the Outpatient Department.

Nurses work in the different clinics in the outpatient department.
They ensure the smooth running of the clinics by working closely with the doctors and patients. Their work includes:
Medical specialties are branches of medicine science. At the SMMC we have several medical specialties in our outpatient department. For some specialties the doctors (specialists) rotate in their visits to our hospital.
Some specialists have their own private offices outside of the hospital but they work in close cooperation with SMMC.
In our department, we have the service of midwives. They are not doctors but they are specialist in childbirth and post-partum care.

The nurses station is the central point of the Outpatient Department where appointments are made and other
information are given.
Visitors must always stop by the nurses’ station to verify their appointment and/or register before
proceeding to the specialists’ office unless specified otherwise.
All specialists (besides Pediatrician, Dr. Oﬀringa) are working with appointments. When you visit the
specialists make sure that you made a follow up appointment if needed.
The nurses station at the Outpatient Department is open from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Children from newborn to 18 years are welcomed at the pediatrician office.
