The St. Maarten Medical Center will welcome a new Internist to their medical staff on June 16th, 2013. The expected Internist, Dr. Gerrit Schreij, has worked for many years in Academisch Ziekenhuis Maastricht as an Internist. His focus

7 nursing assistants of the Saba Hospital and Nursing Home received their certificate of Certified Nursing Assistant. The Accelerated Nursing Assistant Course was designed and executed by the Education Department of SMMC.

OBGYN registered nurses received certificates for a course completed earlier this year. The course instructed on the use of the cardiotocograph machine; analyzing of

Cayhill-Several critical care nurses from the Emergency Room department, the Intensive Care Unit and Anesthesia department received certificates for having completed the basic training of the pacemaker technician course.

In a ruling handed down on May 20, 2013, Judge van Veen decreed that the thirteen orders under the burden of penalties placed on the SMMC by the inspectorate were not justified and the decision of the Inspectorate to that effect was therefore voided.
