The St. Maarten Medical Center is opening its doors to the public for its annual Open House on Saturday October 31st, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
During the Open House persons can come in and learn about the hospital, its departments and facilities. Visitors will get the opportunity to interact with the staff of SMMC as well as to inquire about the importance of each department and the services that they offer to the public.
Throughout the day visitors can also inquire about job opportunities offered at SMMC, gather information about asthma, hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol; there will also be a dietician present that can provide information on proper nutrition and what foods to eat and avoid depending on your physical health.
In recognition of breast cancer awareness month, during the open house there will be presentations and breast screenings done for the visitors. The presentations will begin at 3:00 PM and will be given by medical professionals and a breast cancer survivor. They will approach such topics as breast cancer imaging, what we need to know about cancer, living with breast cancer and supporting someone who has breast cancer.
After the breast cancer presentations are concluded, visitors are welcomed to have free glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol and breast screenings done from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM. There will be doctors present to carry out these breast clinical screenings; the doctors are Dr. Henk Wassenaar, Dr. Felix Holiday, Dr. Menno Misset and Dr. Kalkidan Bekele.
If a doctor is concerned about what he/she discovers during the examination, the visitor will be advised to be tested further.
