On Wednesday, June 27th, the St. Maarten Medical Center received a visit from the State Secretary of the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports, Mr. Paul Blokhuis. Mr. Blokhuis and his team of representatives met with the Management Team and Medical Director of the SMMC. This visit presented the hospital with the opportunity to share current updates.
During the meeting parties discussed the developments of SMMC over the years and its current status of services after the impact of hurricane Irma. Also on the agenda was the ongoing expansion of specialties and services as well as the new hospital building.
As part of Mr. Blokhuis’ visit to SMMC, a hospital tour was given where there was opportunity to meet with a representative cross-section of staff including nurses, doctors, and staff from non-clinical roles.
Dr. Felix Holiday, Medical Director said: “We were delighted to welcome the State Secretary of Health Mr. Paul Blokhuis and his team to the SMMC. Mr Blokhuis was able to hear about our journey of improvement and the significant progress in the expansion of our services to St. Maarten, Saba and Statia. We had the chance to discuss all the positive changes we’ve been putting into place that have ensured we can continue to deliver high-quality care to our patients.”
