Fibroids are a very common gynecologic problem.Most women will have fibroids at some point in their lifetime beginning from in the twenties and they start to shrink after menopause because of the decrease in estrogen levels. Research has shown that it is more common in African women-the darker the skin tone the higher the risk, why this is so, is still unclear.

Gynecology services at the St. Maarten Medical Center will increase with the addition of a new specialist, Dr. Stefano Cirillo, Obstetrician Gynecologist, beginning his service as of November 16th, 2015.
