St. Maarten Heart and Stroke Foundation hosting ‘Heart & Stroke’ Lecture

The St. Maarten Heart and Stroke Foundation (SHSF) in collaboration with St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC), the White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation (WYCCF) and Soualiga Medical Practice invites the public to enjoy an educational event titled “Life After a Stroke” on Saturday, July 6th from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the White and Yellow Cross in St. John’s Estate.

The event will be hosted by Cardiologist Dr. Emiko Bird-Lake who will also deliver a presentation on the topic of ‘Heart and Stroke’. Presentations will be given by Physical Therapist, Petra Peut-Martens on ‘Rehabilitation within WYCCF’; Healthcare Psychologist Caroline van Oost on ‘Psychological impact of Stroke’; Occupational Therapist, Lidwien Weitenberg, on ‘Adaptations for your new life’ to name a few.

Participants will learn how to reduce their risk of stroke while hearing about advancements in stroke treatments and therapies.

Keynote speaker of the event will be Neurologist, Dr. Roberto Rico who will be presenting on the topic of ‘The Burden of Stroke’. Internist-Nephrologist, Dr. Gabe van Essen will also be presenting on the topic of ‘Stroke Prevention’. There will also be a panel discussion with the speakers after the presentations.

The foundation will provide transportation services for persons with limited mobility. Please email sxmheartandstroke@hotmail.com to sign up for this service.
