We are seeking a compassionate and experienced (clinical) midwife who thrives in a multicultural environment. If you are qualified to perform ultrasounds and excited about the prospect of working at our hospital, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

What We Offer:
We offer the opportunity to join a collaborative and dedicated team of three gynecologists and three (clinical) midwives, providing a full spectrum of obstetric care. Our Obstetrics/Gynecology department features 18 beds and handles an average of 300 deliveries per year. You will have the opportunity to work with a multicultural patient population, gaining valuable experience in a unique healthcare environment.

Requirements:

• A recognized midwifery degree;
• Valid medical qualifications (if Dutch-trained, BIG and KNOV registration is required);
• Ultrasound training is a plus;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
• Able to work independently as well as part of a close team;
• Fluency in English (Proficiency in Dutch, French and/or Spanish is a plus).

Tasks:

• Conduct prenatal examinations and monitor pregnancies, including CTG-surveillance;
• Assess patient needs and develop personalized care plans;
• Provide antenatal care in hospitals, homes, and GP practices;
• Provide instruction and education on breastfeeding;
• Perform routine screening tests;
• Measure vital signs, including pulse, blood pressure, and temperature;
• Offer emotional support, reassurance, and guidance to women and their partners before, during and after labor.

With more than 425 FTEs, 28 Specialists and a capacity of 80 beds, we continuously strive to ensure safe, quality health care. Our primary service area of St. Maarten, Statia and Saba, represents a total population of approximately 60.000 people, constituting a multi-cultural mix with more than 100 different nationalities. In addition, we also offer healthcare services to two million visitors annually. SMMC is constructing the new St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH) to expand its services to accommodate the increased care demand of the people of St. Maarten, its visitors, and neighboring islands. The new hospital is planned to be operational in 2026.
