Your Profile:
As an Internist-Nephrologist, you are part of a team of medical specialists ensuring the adequate and optimal diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care of our internal medicine patients. You have a broad interest in all aspects of internal medicine and nephrology and are a team player willing to work in a small team. You will participate in patient care and management of our Dialysis department and actively contribute to the daily operation of our hospital and (intended) developments for the future of our organization.

Requirements:
• Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution;
• Completion of a residency in Internal Medicine and Nephrology;
• Registered as an Internist–Nephrologist with a valid license to practice;
• Able to delegate and provide guidance to House Officers if necessary;
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient care skills;
• Working proficiency in English; knowledge of an additional language is a plus.

Tasks:
• Examines, diagnoses and treats patients, using information and data from other medical disciplines and in coordination and consultation with other medical specialists and care providers;
• Writes treatment plans and records relevant data;
• Coordinates multidisciplinary patient care and monitors the achievement of treatment goals;
• Prescribes and administers medication, provides information to patients and performs medical procedures;
• Performs rounds, assesses the health status and stability of the patient in relation to the treatment plan and adjusts the plan if necessary.
• Contributes to the development and execution of quality management by developing protocols and procedures in cooperation with other medical specialists.

With more than 425 FTEs, 28 Specialists and a capacity of 80 beds, we continuously strive to ensure safe, quality health care. Our primary service area of St. Maarten, Statia and Saba, represents a total population of approximately 60.000 people, constituting a multi-cultural mix with more than 100 different nationalities. In addition, we also offer healthcare services to two million visitors annually. SMMC is constructing the new St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH) to expand its services to accommodate the increased care demand of the people of St. Maarten, its visitors, and neighboring islands. The new hospital is planned to be operational in 2026.
