Your Profile: We are seeking a dynamic, motivated, and reliable individual for the role of Dialysis Nurse. As a Dialysis Nurse, you play a vital role in the care of our 85 dialysis clients and the growing demand for dialysis care on the island. You work closely with the clients, your colleagues in the Dialysis Department, and various specialists including Nephrologists and Internists and ensure a pleasant experience during our clients’ visit to the department. Requirements: • A Registered Nurse (RN) diploma or MBO level 4 with a specialization in Dialysis; • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with dialysis machines and equipment, knowledge of water treatment, and good arithmetic skills; • A Basic Life Support (BLS) diploma in the event that CPR has to be performed; • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office; • Proficiency in the English language is required. Comprehension of one or more other languages (e.g. Dutch, Spanish, Papiamentu, French or Creole) is an asset. Tasks: • Monitors the clients during dialysis at the hospital, records vitals, and adjusts the dialysis machine or treatment if necessary; • Carries out technical nursing procedures within professional standards, administers medication during dialysis, and observes clients for eventual reaction to medication; • Assists specialists with rounds, examinations, and medical procedures and carries out specialists’ orders; • Evaluates care by reviewing client records and reporting the client’s condition; • Draws blood samples and has them tested as per the specialists’ instructions; • Guides and instructs clients with home (peritoneal) dialysis treatment, provides them with equipment and medication, assesses the home situation and advises on improvements.

SMMC is constructing the new St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH) to expand its services to accommodate the increased care demand of the people of St. Maarten, its visitors, and neighboring islands. The new hospital is planned to be operational in 2026.
