Your Profile: As an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Nurse, you work closely with specialists and other providers to deliver intensive and critical care to our patients. You are well-versed in evaluating intensive patients, administering medications, recognizing complications and coordinating with other members of the critical care team. You are an enthusiastic team player with excellent interpersonal skills and willing to actively contribute to the daily operations of our establishment and the ongoing development of our organization while providing exceptional patient care. Requirements: • A Registered Nurse diploma/MBO level 4 with a specialization in ICU; • A minimum of at least one (1) year of experience as an ICU Nurse is required; • Knowledge of work processes on the ICU ward and specific knowledge of interpreting and treating abnormal ECGs, arrhythmias, blood gasses, and ventilator care; • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) diploma is necessary for CPR; • Being patient-centered with excellent communication skills and a high level of integrity; • Working proficiency in English; knowledge of an additional language is a plus. Tasks: • Conduct nursing assessments of patients’ physical, psychological, and social well-being and needs upon admission and at regular intervals; • Monitor and observe patients and provide high quality intensive care, including the creation of daily plans and the evaluation and modification of planned care; • Carry out basic and advanced technical nursing procedures within professional standards and evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by comparing patients’ responses and observable outcomes; • Assist doctors with rounds, medical examinations, treatments, and carry out doctors’ orders to completion; • Answer questions, guide, and instruct patients and their family to achieve favorable patient outcomes.

SMMC is constructing the new St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH) to expand its services to accommodate the increased care demand of the people of St. Maarten, its visitors, and neighboring islands. The new hospital is planned to be operational in 2026.
