Your profile:
As a House Officer, you provide medical care to patients on the respective medical wards. You have broad interests and are willing to work to examine, diagnose and administer general medical treatment in the prevention and control of ailments and diseases. You strive to provide our patients with an optimal level of care aligned with established clinical guidelines and industry best practices.

Requirements:

• Registered as a doctor with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree;
• Great interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of flexibility;
• Patient-centered with a great bedside manner and positive attitude;
• Ambitious and willing to ensure continuity and quality of care;
• Good command of the English language. Ability to speak and understand Dutch, Spanish or French is considered a plus.

Tasks:

• Examines, diagnoses and treats patients, if necessary using information and data from other medical disciplines and in coordination and consultation with medical specialists and other care providers;
• Writes treatment plans and records relevant data;
• Coordinates multidisciplinary patient care;
• Prescribes and administers medication, provides information to patients and performs medical procedures;
• Performs ward rounds, assesses the health status and stability of the patient in relation to the treatment plan and adjusts the plan if necessary.
• Contributes to the development and execution of quality management by developing protocols and procedures in cooperation with other medical specialists.

St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) is an ambitious and growing hospital organization on St. Maarten. With more than 425 FTE’s, 28 Specialists and a capacity of 80 beds, we continuously strive to ensure safe, quality health care. Our primary service area of St. Maarten, Statia and Saba, represents a total population of approximately 60.000 people, constituting a multi-cultural mix with more than 100 different nationalities. In addition, we also offer health care services to the two million visitors annually. SMMC has started the construction of the new St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH) to expand its services in order to accommodate the increased care demand of the people of St. Maarten, its visitors and neighboring islands. The new hospital is planned to be operational in 2026.
